When you step onto the ferry in either St. Ignace or Mackinaw City, you can see Round Island Lighthouse as a tiny shape off in the distance. To me, it’s always been a sign that you are almost to Mackinac Island. It welcomes you from the starboard side of the boat, its bright red paint gleaming in the sun.
